Face and Body 2008 is coming up in San Francisco, August 16-18, with new pre-conference educational workshops taking place on the 16th. Choose from four workshops that cover a variety of topics in-depth.
The first, “Anatomy of a Skin Care Product,” is a cosmetic chemistry class conducted by formulator and researcher Peter T. Pugliese, MD, president and founder of Circadia by Dr. Pugliese. He will lead a discussion into the world of product development; define what is meant by “active,” “anti-aging,” “nature” and “organic” ingredients; discuss preservative systems; and explain their role in new product development. The hands-on classroom allows attendees to actually work with the laboratory equipment and raw materials used in creating superior skin care formulations. Each student will walk away with their very own effective peptide.
“Be the It Makeup Artist” with educator Noreen Young, president of Noreen Young Cosmetics and Makeup Studio, will teach spa professionals how to make their client look their best and help their businesses offer more than just facials, manicures and spa treatments. The third, “Reiki Rainbow Treatment,” is an integrated alternative wellness treatment using hands-on healing techniques, gemstones and colored light and can be introduced as an alternative to facials. Taught by Linda Bertaut, founder of Bertaut Beauty, participants will experience Reiki first-hand by receiving an attunement lasting 2–5 days. This will set the opening mood for the workshop.
Finally, inflammation isn’t just the bottom line of aging; it’s also a key component in the wound-healing process that takes place when skin recovers from peels, lasers, light treatments, dermal planing and other medical procedures, as well as from diseases such as acne. The fourth workshop, “Insights into Inflammation and Wound Healing” takes its materials directly from YG Laboratories Co-CEO Rebecca James Gadberry’s course Advances in Skin Care Ingredients for Non-Chemists at the University of California, Los Angeles Extension.
