Sense of Serenity

Kelly White has been in the spa business for 25 years—enough time to give her an idea of what she was looking for when she went in search of the perfect place to launch her own business. She found it in a classic Nantucket bungalow built in 1911 on one of the main roads through town. “There was lots of traffic, lots of walk-bys and just great curb appeal,” says White. “People drive by and come in.” She spent a full year on a gut renovation, that left the beautiful, original hardwood floor as the only thing in the bungalow not brand new. With only 1,200 square feet and a full menu of services that includes facials, body treatments, massage, nails and hair removal, White has taken advantage of every inch of space. The first floor houses a treatment room and manicure/pedicure area, while the 500-square-foot upstairs accommodates three treatment beds which can be used for a group or a single client. When it came to decoration, White says she had the complete vision from the beginning. “It’s quiet and serene,” she says. “Clients can relax—it’s like a slice of heaven. There’s definitely a good aura.”
